SLEMAN - The progress of world civilization recently is influenced by the flow of globalization that effects various aspects of national and state life. The process of globalization brings us to face various phenomena in all fields that influence the behavior of the young generation of one of them students.

Facing this matter, the Chancellor of UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta (UPNVY), Mohamad Irhas Effendi, mentioned the need to strengthen the values ??of defending the country.

"We need to have the same understanding and perception about defending the country. So, UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta starts by realizing that we have the state defending values”. The Commander of the Education Institution (Danlemdik) in TNI environment and the Head of the Ministry of Defense Regional Office (Kakanwil Kemhan) were in cooperation for implementing PKBN to the New Students at Kemhan Jakarta, Friday (7/19).

The Chancellor said that an organization would not be strong without a binding value. Pancasila, UUD 1955, and defending the country are the binding values. For this reason, the Chancellor continued, there was a need to raise awareness about the values so that there would not be changes of perceptions.

"After understanding the values, we must then internalize them to ourselves. Then, we must believe that the values are important. "

Understanding of the values, said the lecturer of the Management Study Program, will foster changes in attitudes and behavior. Furthermore, it can be evaluated whether it is in accordance with understanding.

The implementation of these values ??has been carried out by UPNVY since the selection process for the new students. In addition to the academic selection, the institute conducts a rigorous selection process for the prospective students who have non-academic achievements.

"We prioritize those who have achievements in the field of national defense, for example paskibraka, sports, scouts, etc." said Irhas.

The students get a character education in the form of daily lecture routines, such as the use of uniforms, sports courses, etc.

On the previous occasion, the Defense Minister, Ryamizard Ryacudu, emphasized that the implementation of the State Defense Awareness (PKBN) activities for the younger generation, especially students, should be carried out simply and uniformly to foster the sense of love to the country.

The State Defense Awareness (PKBN) activities for the new students is carried out essentially to strengthen the ideology of Pancasila to the next generation of the nation, so that it is not easily influenced by other ideologies such as the Caliphate. Besides that, there will be more Student Regiment in every Higher Education to keep other ideologies away from the campus.

"The future war is a mainset war, not a war using weapons, so that the nation's mainset must be maintained," said the Defense Minister.

The Minister of Defense further emphasized that Pancasila as a unifying tool of the nation must be maintained, because if it breaks down, this nation will be damaged; and if itis destroyed and the country will be destroyed. Do not let the Indonesian civil war happens like in the Middle East.

For this reason, the students as the nation's generation need have the State Defense Awareness (PKBN) activities to provide an understanding of how the nation's threats are going forward and how to overcome these threats. In addition, the other material are also given such as legal culture, knowledge of natural disaster management, and others.

This event was attended by 62 Military Officials within TNI and also 34 Chiefs of Regional Office of the Ministry of Defense. It also invited three speakers as resource persons namely the Chancellor of UPN Yogyakarta, Kapusdiklat Bela Negara Badiklat Kemhan and Danrindam III / Siliwangi.
